Making A Difference At Any Age
Volunteering your time, your energy, your passion, and your skills at any age is something that benefits you and those you serve. Through Student Service Learning (SSL) students address a real community need while earning service hours for graduation. At Friendship Children’s Center, we are bringing high-quality learning experiences to the youngest members of our communities and their families.
Description:
To provide developmentally appropriate programs and experiences that enhance each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and to create an atmosphere of warmth and understanding where children can develop as individuals and as part of a group. A primary goal of the curriculum at the Friendship Children’s Center is to instill in its students the values and awareness necessary to build a community of active, aware, and compassionate citizens. To this end, teachers and volunteers are encouraged to design experiences to broaden and deepen children’s use of the ideas they are developing naturally and are expected to be positive role models within this philosophy and to provide experiences that will initiate the child’s thinking and aid each child in developing respect for others, a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, and independent learning.
